As my daughter graduates from MindChamps Chinese Preschool, I’m looking back with so much gratitude. This school provided such a strong and joyful foundation for her. The team (including centre owner, principal and teachers) are truly incredible—so warm, patient, and they genuinely care. They were wonderful partners in her growth, and the communication with us as parents was always clear and helpful. The blend of play, structure, and Mandarin immersion is just right. My daughter loved the engaging activities, and it’s amazing to hear her switch between languages like it’s no big deal! Seeing her so confident, happy, and prepared for the next step is the best review I can give. Thank you for an amazing few years! We’ll miss the MindChamps family.

For us, choosing Mindchamps Chinese Preschool@Tampines was about more than just a perfect location; it was about crafting a joyful first chapter in our son’s education. We wanted a place he would love, and after a year, he absolutely does. What makes Mindchamps special is the genuine respect they show each child. The teachers curate beautiful, engaging interactions, and the entire team is proactive and communicative. The best review comes from Hira himself: he adores his teachers, looks forward to school every day, sings his lessons around the house, and has even become our little Chinese language coach! We are a Mindchamps family through and through.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her time at Brainy Child Montessori Learning Centre. The educators made sure she progressed at a speed she was comfortable with and knew when she needed a break. I have nothing but praise for the teachers and principal, Ms Katherine for the two years my boy spent at the Little House. All staff are good at setting consistent boundaries and guiding children at all levels and needs. I am glad i made the decision to transfer my boy from his previous preschool to the little house. He has grown to be a confident and happy boy ready for primary 1. Ms Katherine sets high standards for all teachers and children. Thanks also for the regular coffee mornings welcoming all parents and friends to take part where we learn about parenting and academic learning. All the best to the Little House from Jenson’s mum!

A good learning environment and teachers’ teaching are very important. Like many parents, I took my child to a few kindergarten to take a look. Only this kindergarten is different from the others as soon as you step in. Its educational policy and philosophy are different from other schools. The principal is the founder of this school. She supervises students and teachers in the school every day. She knows the operation of the school very well and is very strict about everything, which is also part of why I like this kindergarten. She is very experienced. When you don’t know how to help your child, just approach her and she will be happy to guide you. Her teaching methods are very effective. My child looking forward to school every day.

The Year-End Graduation Concert 2025 today truly exceeded my expectations! It was clear how much hard work went into the rehearsals, coordination, and costume changes—especially with such young children and for nearly 3 hours! I was amazed by how confidently the kids could recite difficult and long poems and performed their songs and dances. I’m so glad to have enrolled my son in such a wonderful school that puts in so much effort not only in education, but also in teaching important values like mindfulness, meditation, and kindness. A big thank you to all the teachers and Principal Ben for such a memorable experience!

Our child has been with Teacher Bel and Zheng Laoshi since K1 and graduated this year. Over these 2 years, they have been consistent, dependable, and thoughtful in the way they teach and care for the children. I really appreciate that the teachers set clear expectations and hold the children to a high bar, but they do so with a gentle and kind approach. We felt our child was well supported and looked after. Our child has grown a lot under their guidance. For parents looking for teachers who combine structure, care, and genuine commitment, our experience with them has been very positive.

Both my girls have been with My Little Gems Preschool since they were each 18 months old. The elder one is now in K2 and the younger one N2. With my elder one now graduating preschool and set to begin P1, I look back at her preschool journey and can’t help but be grateful to Principal Ben, Tr Annabel, Tr Winnie and all other teachers who have supported us in caring, teaching and shaping her into who she is today. Someone not just confident, strong and prepared to enter P1; but also someone who is kind, grateful and mindful. Someone who knows how to be thankful for everything, is respectful to everyone and shows appreciation to parents. All very Buddhist rooted (not religious but philosophical). A very personalised school (each class is not that big and kept to a reasonable size / number) where teachers know every unique thing about each kid and caters to and supports that. We love MLG and will recommend this preschool to anyone!

BestLah’s Recommendation
There’s no one-size-fits-all preschool. The best match is the one that supports your child’s natural strengths and fits your daily routine. Here are three picks to consider.
1. If You Want Strong Bilingual Foundations With Structure
Our pick: MindChamps Chinese PreSchool @ Tampines Central
MindChamps is a standout if you want your child to grow up genuinely comfortable in both English and Mandarin, not just picking up vocabulary here and there. Mandarin immersion is woven into daily learning, and the Chinese Cultural Appreciation programme makes language feel lived-in through hands-on activities like calligraphy, clay work, and traditional art.
On top of that, the school’s S.M.I.L.E.S.™ methodology brings a structured, research-backed approach to building confidence, communication, and thinking skills, not just academic readiness. If you want a preschool that feels purposeful, organised, and future-ready (especially for families aiming for local or international primary schools), this is a very strong match.
2. If You Want An Authentic Montessori Environment That Builds Independence
Our pick: The Little House (Montessori)
The Little House is ideal for parents who want “true Montessori”. The school offers calm, child-led learning that develops focus, responsibility, and independent thinking without pushing children into rote worksheets. Their vertically grouped classes encourage peer learning (older children model, younger children absorb), which often helps shy children find their footing and confident children learn patience and leadership.
One feature that makes the experience especially meaningful is the observation-based progress tracking: instead of generic report cards, parents get detailed portfolios and teacher conferences that show how a child is developing across skills and habits. If your priority is steady, grounded growth, and you want a school that really sees your child’s progress in depth, this is an excellent choice.
3. If You Want Play-Based Learning With Strong Emotional Development
Our pick: Little Atlas Preschool
Little Atlas is a great fit if you want your child to learn through play without sacrificing depth or intention. Their “True Play” approach is designed to build confident, curious learners who are emotionally secure enough to explore, take small risks, and express themselves, which often translates into better social skills and stronger long-term motivation.
What makes Little Atlas especially compelling is the structure behind the play: they have an in-house curriculum team that does ongoing research and teacher mentorship, so the learning doesn’t feel random or purely “free play”. Add in their spacious, light-filled campus and a strong track record in nutrition (with an in-house kitchen and healthy meals recognition), and it’s a strong option for families who value wellbeing, creativity, and a joyful school culture.
Final Thoughts
Every child’s early learning journey is unique, and the right preschool can make a meaningful difference in shaping confidence, curiosity, and foundational skills. From research-driven programmes and Montessori environments to play-based and bilingual immersion approaches, the preschools on this list reflect the diversity and quality of early childhood education available in Singapore today.
When choosing a preschool, it’s important to consider your child’s learning style, personality, and developmental needs, as well as your family’s values and long-term goals. Visiting campuses, speaking with educators, and observing classroom interactions can help you make a more informed decision.
As your child grows, some families may also explore additional academic support to complement school learning. If you’re thinking ahead, it may be worth learning more about the best tuition centres in Singapore to support your child should they need extra guidance in the years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2. What are the preschool subsidies available for Singaporeans in 2026?
Affordability has taken a major leap forward this year. If your child is a Singapore Citizen, you are eligible for:
- Basic Subsidy: Up to $300 for full-day childcare and $600 for infant care, regardless of your income level (though the mother must be working at least 56 hours a month to qualify for the full amount).
- Additional Subsidy: This is means-tested for families with a Gross Monthly Household Income (GHI) of $12,000 or less.
- 2026 Fee Caps: As of January 1, 2026, fee caps have been lowered. For full-day childcare, fees are capped at $610 for Anchor Operators and $650 for Partner Operators (before subsidies).
3. What on earth are "Anchor" and "Partner" operators?
These are government-backed schemes to keep fees low and quality high.
- Anchor Operators (AOP): Large-scale operators that receive the most government funding. They have the strictest fee caps (e.g., $610 for full-day childcare).
- Partner Operators (POP): Private or non-profit centres that join a government scheme to lower their fees in exchange for funding. Their fees are capped slightly higher than AOPs (e.g., $650).
- Private/Independent: These do not have fee caps and can range from affordable to "luxury" prices.
4. What is the teacher-to-student ratio?
The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) sets these limits to ensure your child isn't just a face in the crowd. As children get older and more independent, the groups get larger:
- Infants (2–18 months): 1 teacher to every 5 babies.
- Toddlers (18–30 months): 1 teacher to every 8 children.
- Nursery 1 (3 years old): 1 teacher to 12 children.
- Nursery 2 (4 years old): 1 teacher to 15 children.
- Kindergarten 1 (5 years old): 1 teacher to 20 children.
- Kindergarten 2 (6 years old): 1 teacher to 25 children.
5. How do I register or search for a vacancy?
The days of calling every school in a 5km radius are mostly over. You should use the LifeSG app or website. It allows you to:
- Search for preschools near your home or workplace.
- Check real-time vacancy status (though it's always good to call and confirm).
- Register your "Interest" directly with the centre.
6. At what age should my child actually start preschool?
In Singapore, you can start as early as 2 months in Infant Care. However, most children join Playgroup or Nursery 1 around 18 months to 3 years old. While preschool is not compulsory in Singapore, most parents enrol their children by age 5 (K1) to ensure they are socially and academically ready for Primary 1.
7. Is the curriculum play-based or academic-heavy?
This is the big debate!
- Play-based: Focuses on "purposeful play." Children learn through exploration, inquiry, and social interaction.
- Academic-heavy: More structured, focusing on early literacy, numeracy, and "sit-down" work to prep for P1.
Most modern Singaporean preschools now use a holistic approach, blending play in the early years (N1/N2) with more structured learning as they approach K2.
8. What happens if my child has "separation anxiety"?
Every parent's nightmare! Most schools have a 3-day or 1-week orientation period.
- Day 1: You might stay in the classroom or just outside.
- Day 2: You stay for a shorter time.
- Day 3: The "quick goodbye."
Teachers are highly trained to handle tears (yours and the child's!). They often use "comfort objects" from home or buddy systems to help the little ones settle in.
9. Are meals provided, and can they cater to allergies?
Childcare centres provide breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Most are halal-certified or serve no pork/lard. If your child has specific allergies (like peanuts or dairy), schools are strictly required to maintain an allergy list and often provide a "special meal" tag for that child. You’ll just need to provide a doctor's memo during registration.
10. What support is there for children with developmental delays?
If your child isn't meeting certain milestones, you don't have to navigate it alone.
- Inclusion Programs: Many mainstream preschools have Learning Support (LS) or Development Support (DS) programs where therapists come to the school to work with the child.
- EIPIC: For children needing more intensive support, the Early Intervention Programme for Infants & Children (EIPIC) is available, often heavily subsidised for Singaporeans.
