Great seller – highly recommended for their durian product, honesty and speed! I am an overseas tourist who found their website and ordered 2x400gms. Ok bought the MSK and Black Thorne. Their durian was extremely taste and full of flesh. They were just rightly ripped. They even triple wrapped things in sealed plastic so I could transport it in public places! See the size of the seeds – most were tiny, so you’re paying for the hood stuff! Would come back!

Wincy Demy
Very very good quality. Very very nice uncle. Uncle Sam explained to us the difference of the type of durian and found us a very good quality one to eat there. My friend ordered from Deliveroo before but it will be way cheaper to eat there or even call Uncle Sam for free delivery if buying 4 packs or up. ???
Ming Hui
Overwhelming 5 stars review. I visited the store and felt that the 5 stars are legit. Well firstly, uncle Sam himself is friendly and much less “direct” as many bigger stall operators you are starting to see everywhere now. Nothing against those bigger stores but the feeling is different with uncle Sam. The store is smaller and is tucked inside the clementi hawker centre. He only sells the too breeds like msw, black thorn and black gold. The meat are all very good. Happy with the taste quality and the service.
Gerald
Uncle Sam is not just your regular uncle, he is a Mao Shan Wang Magician. His black gold MSW are amongst the best I’ve tried, creamy, thick and really sweet without it being overpowering (His black thorn was alright, but definitely come for the black gold). Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some top tier durians.

It’s not only just a taste of premium durain you paid for, it’s an unforgettable experience overall. From the point you state your taste preference till the day you receive your fruit They are the only one of it kind, not only “Bao Jiak” but “Bao Ho Jiak”. They went all out to deliver Durians that cater to customer’s taste preference .And it will be best for you to know what you preferred. Thank you very RD for giving me the chance to taste MSW from Penang which I’ve never dream of. Smell =aromatic Taste & texture =Fulfilling Highlight = the after taste of the bitter durian is super~ Just like the good old days. In Chinese it’s described as 齿颊留香, 回味无穷。 Highly Recommend ???
Angela
This was my first purchase from Royal Durian, and I truly appreciate their accommodating attitude in postponing the delivery due to a medical issue. I believe no other durian stall would agree and go the extra mile to follow up and ensure it’s a good time for delivery. I also commend their honesty in informing about the large seeds on the box, and they even compensated by adding extra seeds—something I haven’t seen from other sellers. The durians I received matched the description when I placed my order! Additionally, the packaging was beautiful, not just a simple plastic bag like those from supermarkets. It’s great for gifting, though I also appreciate their effort to be environmentally conscious—saving the earth, ya! From the moment I ordered to delivery, and even during tasting, their service and product quality are among the best I’ve encountered. ??
ST Han
I have tried Royal Durian several times and their service and durian quality remain the best. This time, I organized a durian party for my office, catering to various taste preferences by offering MSW from grades 3 to 5. All the durians were marvelous. We also tried their MSW ice cream and puffs. The ice cream is among the best I’ve ever tasted—truly top quality. As for the puffs, they need to be properly defrosted; otherwise, they can be too hard. Once thawed, they taste great. I highly recommend Royal Durian for their premium durians and delicious treats!

Last friday we had excellent MSW here. The MSW was super creamy and the taste was sweet, bitter and intense….Thank you Mr Ah Hai for the great experience !

I have been regularly patronising Durian Empire as they never fail in selling quality durians (包吃). Whenever it’s durian season, I will call them up once I crave even at the last hour. These days they sell out fast but I still get lucky buying them. Best to order 1-2 days in advance. You can request for vaccum pack. Owner is very friendly and honest. He won’t eat your money. I bought 6 boxes for my family who flew home from overseas and they were super satisfied with the taste since they can’t find durians in their country.

Ursula June Koh
Very fast and prompt delivery! As promised it was delivered within the allocated time slot. Surprisingly the Black Thorn which is more expensive is inferior to the Leaf Black Gold. Today was my second purchase, the Leaf Black Gold was consistently superb! Thick, creamy with bittersweet taste was heavenly! I was lucky as many had tiny seeds ?? I would highly recommend Durian Sg for its reliability and high quality durians!

Hai Peng Lam
Had a wonderful evening having Durian as dinner here with Best Friends!!! We had 2 packets of 貓山王 Mao Shang Wang, & 3 packets of 紅蝦 Red Prawn Durian. There were 4 of us. We had them fresh as they just arrived today. They were really good, totally flavorful and the texture was out of this world!!! We couldn’t stop eating. We were happy because the ‘hood’ (seed) of the durian were really small for the 紅蝦 Red Prawn Durian. Businesses were non-stop with lots of Durian Desserts. I think I have to come back again!!!
Kwang Kow Wan
Great place for durian desserts like chendol, green bean soup if you desperately craving durian and it’s not the season.
Doraemon
We decided to visit Ah Seng Durian based on recommendations from friends and their reputation for offering excellent quality durians. Cycling from Punggol to ensure we arrived before their 10:00 pm closing time, we made a reservation just in case. Upon our arrival, we were delighted to find that our three Black Thorn durians, two Golden Phoenix, and three Mao Shan Wang durians were ready and waiting for us, all prepped and beautifully boxed. The quality of the durians surpassed our expectations, with each variety offering a delightful burst of flavor. The honesty of the seller added to our positive experience. The ambiance of the place was excellent, with comfortable seating enhancing our enjoyment. Besides the durian stall, there is a dessert store offering a range of durian and ice cream treats. In addition, the durian stall owner recommended a specific eating order for us – starting with the Black Thorn, followed by the Golden Phoenix, and finishing with the Mao Shan Wang. He explained that this sequential tasting journey, from light to strong flavor profiles, would enhance our overall durian experience. Overall, the setup, ambiance, and, most importantly, the quality of the durians make Ah Seng Durian a standout choice. This place is definitely worth a visit for durian enthusiasts and those looking for a memorable durian experience.

Purchased 1 Penang Susu and 2 Black Gold durians—small to decent-sized seeds, with some medium-sized ones, but plenty of flesh. The durian was fresh, flavorful, and perfect. The aroma was pleasant, not too strong but wonderfully fragrant. Ate in-store; they provide tissues, gloves, and water. Very reasonably priced for such good quality. Will definitely return for more!

I’m glad I took the chance! Ended up with one of the best service. First off, the durian itself was a sight to behold—perfectly round, with a color so rich and inviting you could almost taste it with your eyes. The skin was silky smooth, and the flesh? Absolute perfection. Soft, moist, and packed with that creamy, bittersweet flavor you hope for.

Found this stall around Dec 2022. Boss always friendly, will ask you how much you eat, what taste profile you prefer etc. No hard selling at all. We prefer to rely on vendors to pick for us and Durian Prince is those kind of seller we can trust a 100%. His durians always always hit the spot. Never failed us before. Thats why when his stall is not open, we would rather wait for him to come back. Buy quality durians at this stall with peace of mind. Tough to find such honest durian stalls around.

Durian Prince bring in many other cultivars as well. Their durians bring in fresh daily! The boss give good pricing and discount if you buy more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2. How can one choose a good, ripe durian?
Choosing a good durian involves using several of your senses. First, the smell is a key indicator of ripeness; a fresh durian should have a strong, sweet, and pleasant aroma. An overly pungent or alcoholic smell may indicate that the fruit is overripe, while a lack of smell suggests it is unripe. It is also helpful to give the durian a gentle shake while holding it near your ear; a slight rattling sound of the seeds inside suggests the flesh has pulled away from the husk, a sign of ripeness.
Visual and tactile cues are also important. The husk should be an unblemished, consistent colour, and the spikes should feel firm and not wobbly. A scratch test on the stem can reveal its freshness; a green and moist interior indicates the durian was harvested within the last day. Lastly, many experienced buyers will tap on the durian with a small stick, listening for a hollow drum-like sound, which signifies that the fruit is ripe and ready to be enjoyed.
3. What are the most popular durian varieties in Singapore, and what are their typical flavour profiles?
One of the most popular varieties is the Mao Shan Wang, also known as Musang King. It is highly sought after for its signature bittersweet flavour and rich, creamy, and buttery texture. Another widely consumed type is the D24, or Sultan King, which is generally milder with a slightly bitter, caramel-like sweetness, making it an excellent choice for those who are new to durian.
Another favourite is the Red Prawn, known for its vibrant orange-red flesh and sticky, custardy texture. It is prized for its pronounced sweetness with a subtle bitter aftertaste. The Black Thorn, a premium variety, is also gaining popularity for its smooth, dense flesh and a complex flavour that combines sweetness with a unique floral finish.
4. How should one store durian to keep it fresh and prevent the smell from spreading?
To store durian and maintain its freshness, it is crucial to place the flesh in an airtight container. The durian should be de-husked and the pods placed in a sealed container, as this prevents the strong odour from permeating other food items in the refrigerator. A good-quality container with a tight-fitting lid is essential for this purpose.
For longer storage, the durian pods can be wrapped individually in cling film before being placed in an airtight container and frozen. Frozen durian can last for several weeks or even months without a significant loss of flavour, although the texture may become slightly softer. It is important to note that once thawed, the durian should not be refrozen.
5. Is there a way to tell if a durian has been over-ripened or is of poor quality?
An overripe durian can be identified by its smell and appearance. If the fruit has a very strong, fermented, or sour smell, it is likely past its prime. Visually, the flesh may appear mushy or watery, and it might have a translucent or greyish tint, indicating that it has been exposed to too much moisture. The husk itself may also have noticeable cracks or signs of mould.
A durian of poor quality may also feel unusually light for its size, suggesting empty or small chambers within. When de-husked, the flesh might be fibrous or overly dry, lacking the rich, creamy texture that characterises a high-quality fruit. It is always wise to inspect the durian pods carefully before purchasing them, especially if they have already been de-husked.
6. Why does the price of durian fluctuate so much in Singapore?
The price of durian in Singapore is heavily influenced by factors of supply and demand. The vast majority of the fruit is imported from Malaysia, and its availability is entirely dependent on the harvest season, which can be affected by weather conditions such as rainfall and sunshine. When the harvest is small, the limited supply leads to a significant increase in prices.
Furthermore, the price is determined by the specific variety and its quality. Premium types like Mao Shan Wang or Black Thorn are inherently more expensive due to their sought-after flavour profile and limited yield. Logistical costs, including transportation and labour, also play a role in the final price, which can vary from day to day depending on market conditions.
7. What are some of the key indicators of a trustworthy and reputable durian seller?
A reputable durian seller is often characterised by their honesty and transparency. They will typically have clear pricing displayed, which may be per kilogram or per fruit, and they are usually willing to de-husk the fruit in front of the customer to demonstrate its quality. A good seller is also knowledgeable about the different varieties and can provide sound advice based on a customer's preferences.
Customer service is another hallmark of a good establishment. Many well-regarded sellers offer a replacement or refund for any durian that is found to be bad or unripe, which gives customers confidence in their purchase. Positive word-of-mouth recommendations and a long-standing presence in the community are also strong indicators of a reliable and trustworthy business.
8. Are there any health myths or concerns associated with eating durian?
One common myth is that eating durian with alcohol is a fatal combination. There is no conclusive scientific evidence to support this claim, although both durian and alcohol can be "heaty" in traditional medicine, and overconsumption of either may lead to discomfort such as bloatedness. Another popular belief is that durian is high in cholesterol; however, the fruit contains no cholesterol and has healthy monounsaturated fats.
It is important to note that durian is a calorie-dense fruit with a high sugar content. People with diabetes should consume it in moderation, as should those who are watching their weight. A popular custom to counteract the "heaty" effects is to drink water from the durian husk, which is believed by some to have a cooling effect.
9. Is it common for durian sellers to offer a replacement or refund for bad durians?
Yes, many reputable durian sellers in Singapore do offer a replacement or refund for durians that are found to be of poor quality. This practice is a key aspect of building customer trust and maintaining a good reputation in the competitive market. The conditions for this guarantee often involve returning the durian and providing proof of purchase.
The policy typically covers durians that are unripe, watery, or have rotten pods inside. However, customers are advised to raise their concerns promptly after purchasing the fruit, usually within a few hours or a day. This customer-centric approach gives people the confidence to buy durian, knowing they are protected against a bad experience.
10. What is the difference between a durian with a large seed and one with a small seed?
The size of the durian seed directly correlates to the amount of edible flesh one receives. A durian with a small, shrivelled, or "flat" seed indicates that the fruit has a high flesh-to-seed ratio, meaning there is more creamy and delicious pulp to enjoy. This characteristic is highly prized by durian connoisseurs, as it offers better value for money.
Conversely, a durian with a large, plump seed will have a smaller portion of edible flesh wrapped around it. While a large seed does not necessarily mean the durian is of poor quality, it does mean that the buyer will get less fruit per pod. Many premium varieties are sought after precisely because they consistently produce small seeds and therefore yield more flesh.
