Miyuki Watanabe
Staying near and first time visit on Monday. Their pastries really impressed me! Bought a few to try and they were delicious! Creamy, Cheesey and Buttery! Totally my kind of favorites pastries! Kudos to the bakers! I would recommend their Kouign Amann, Cruffins and the Danishes! Especially the fruit danishes! ❤️ The cruffins are amazing too! The staff are super friendly, joviour and helpful! Love their vibes! However, the outside sitting area looks a bit ‘shaggy’… The table tops are full of faded photos and newspaper reports… Hmm, what’s that for? LOL Anyway, it’s too warm to sit outside… Better to pack home and enjoy! Looking forward to try other pastries next time.
Regine /
Friendly bakers and staff. Had the hojicha cheesecake, was very rich
Jed Lim
Creamy and rich basque cheesecake. I preferred the standard basque burnt cheesecake over the hojicha one because you can taste the richness of the cheese so much better. Will be back to tuck into the full cake next time! The fillings in the cruffins were generous and rich. I had the matcha premium cruffin and peanut butter jelly cruffin. The pastry was light and crunchy. It is quite expensive for the size, but the quality of ingredients made up for it.

“Ordered more or less the whole menu but still had space for more” Loved the place, perfect for a date night out or very small groups. Portion size is slightly small but the taste and flavours were supreme and suited me. Big love for the tuna tartare, sour dough with kombu butter, iberico and lamb chops Edit: I’ve been back a few times and the food has still been excellent each time.

Napat Choongphong
The best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten ! (The signature cheesecake one) It’s so savory, had strong cheese flavors and gooey. The taste is different from normal cheesecake but It’s so good that we kept ordering for more. The signature chocolate cheesecake was also delicious. It had a rich chocolate flavor and not too sweet. Everything’s so good I wanna fly back to singapore just to eat this cheesecake everyday ! Note. The cafe’s a bit small. You might need to sit outside.

BestLah’s Recommendation
With so many excellent cheesecakes to choose from, the best pick often depends on how and why you’re enjoying it. Whether you’re buying for a celebration, a casual treat, or a night out, these three recommendations highlight where each spot truly excels.
1. If You Want A Showstopping Cheesecake For Celebrations
Our Pick: Tiramizus De Sensare
Tiramizus De Sensare is the top choice for celebrations because their cheesecakes are designed to impress both visually and in flavour. Their Tiramisu Cheesecake stands out by combining two iconic desserts into a single, indulgent centrepiece, layered with espresso-soaked Savoiardi, rich mascarpone, and a creamy cheesecake base that delivers depth without being overpowering. This fusion makes it ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or gatherings where you want something more memorable than a standard cake.
The availability of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions adds flexibility for mixed-age groups, while their Basque Burnt Cheesecake offers a reliable alternative for guests who prefer a richer, more caramelised profile. With consistent quality, online ordering, and delivery or appointment-based pick-up, Tiramizus De Sensare is especially suited for planned celebrations where you want a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that feels thoughtfully crafted.
2. If You Want A Light, Fluffy Cheesecake That’s Not Too Sweet
Our Pick: Kiroi Freshly Baked Cheesecake
Kiroi Freshly Baked Cheesecake is specifically recommended for those who find traditional cheesecakes too dense or overly sweet. Their Japanese-style cheesecakes are baked using a souffle method that produces a soft, airy, and jiggly texture, making each bite feel light rather than heavy. This makes Kiroi Freshly Baked Cheesecake an excellent option for families, older diners, or anyone who wants dessert without feeling weighed down.
Their strict bake-to-order system ensures maximum freshness, which directly impacts the moist, pillowy structure that sets their cakes apart from mass-produced versions. The absence of preservatives and artificial additives also appeals to customers who value clean, simple ingredients. With approachable pricing and flavour options like Pandan, Mocha, and Chocolate, Kiroi Freshly Baked Cheesecake offers variety while staying true to its core strength: a delicate cheesecake that’s easy to eat and easy to love.
3. If You Want A “Date Night” Dessert Experience
Our Pick: Haus Cheesecake & Wine
Haus Cheesecake & Wine is chosen for those who see cheesecake as part of a broader dining experience rather than a takeaway dessert. Their signature cheesecake is intentionally crafted to sit between two worlds – combining the caramelised, lightly smoky top of a Basque burnt cheesecake with the buttery, structured base of a New York–style cheesecake. This deliberate balance gives their cake complexity in both texture and flavour, making it particularly enjoyable when paired with wine or cocktails.
What truly sets Haus apart is its concept-driven approach. As Singapore’s first venue dedicated to cheesecake-and-wine pairing, the environment, menu, and pacing encourage diners to slow down and savour dessert as the highlight of the evening. The addition of tapas and cheese boards further supports this experience, making Haus ideal for date nights, post-dinner drinks, or relaxed celebrations where dessert is meant to be enjoyed unhurriedly.
Final Thoughts
A great cheesecake hits differently depending on what you’re craving – something light and fluffy, deeply rich and decadent, or served with a side of atmosphere. Pick the one that matches your mood, and you’ll turn a simple dessert run into a genuinely memorable treat.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2. Beyond classic flavours like New York and Oreo, what unique, locally-inspired cheesecake flavours are becoming popular among Singaporeans?
Singaporean dessert culture is heavily influenced by local ingredients and traditional sweet treats, leading to an exciting rise in innovative cheesecake flavours that appeal specifically to the local palate.
One of the most prominent is the Pandan Cheesecake, which incorporates the fragrant, slightly vanilla-like aroma and subtle green hue of the pandan leaf, often paired with a coconut crust or a gula melaka (palm sugar) drizzle. Another popular local favourite is the Durian Cheesecake, which uses the creamy, pungent 'King of Fruits' in the filling. This is a highly polarising but incredibly sought-after flavour for adventurous dessert lovers.
Other increasingly common iterations include Salted Egg Yolk Cheesecake, offering a savoury-sweet profile that is very much in vogue, Milo Dinosaur Cheesecake, tapping into a nostalgic childhood beverage, and even variations incorporating local tea blends like Earl Grey Lavender or Lychee Rose, providing a lighter, more floral experience. These unique twists offer a fresh and localised perspective on a Western classic.
3. What is the typical price range for a whole standard cheesecake in Singapore, and how does the cost vary based on size, ingredients, and type?
The price of a whole, standard-sized cheesecake (typically 6-inch or 8-inch, suitable for 6-12 people) in Singapore generally ranges from $40 to $90, though this can fluctuate significantly based on several factors. At the lower end ($40-$55), you'll often find more classic, mass-produced flavours from larger chains or casual bakeries using standard ingredients.
The mid-range ($55-$75) is where most independent, artisan bakeries sit, offering higher-quality ingredients, greater flavour complexity, and attractive presentation. The premium tier (S$75 and above) includes custom creations, those using high-end imported ingredients like specific European cheeses or couverture chocolates, or specialty diets (e.g., vegan, gluten-free) which require more expensive alternatives.
Non-baked or chilled cheesecakes are sometimes slightly more affordable than their labour-intensive baked counterparts. Ultimately, the use of unique local or seasonal fruits, specialised decorations, and the bakery's brand reputation are the primary drivers of cost variation within the Singapore market.
4. Given Singapore's tropical climate, what are the best practices for transporting and storing a cheesecake to maintain its quality?
Singapore's high heat and humidity pose a real threat to the integrity of a cheesecake, especially chilled varieties. Transport should be kept as short as possible. The single most important factor is keeping the cake consistently cool.
Ideally, purchase or pick up the cake right before heading to the destination. If walking or using public transport, always request a thermal bag with at least two or three large ice packs from the bakery. If driving, ensure the cake is placed in the main cabin, not the boot, with the air conditioning directed towards the box. Never leave a cheesecake in a parked car, even for a short time.
For storage at home, cheesecakes must be kept refrigerated at all times (ideally 0°C to 4°C). To prevent the cake from absorbing strong odours from the fridge, keep it in its original box or transfer it to an airtight container. For serving, allow a baked cheesecake to sit at room temperature for just 15-20 minutes before cutting to slightly soften the texture and bring out the flavour, but chilled or non-baked cheesecakes should be served immediately upon taking them out of the refrigerator to prevent melting.
5. What are the key differences between baked and non-baked (chilled) cheesecakes, and which style is generally preferred by Singaporean dessert lovers?
The key difference lies in the setting agent and texture. Baked Cheesecakes rely on eggs and the gentle heat of an oven to set the cream cheese mixture into a firm, dense, and often slightly crumbly texture. They are typically richer, heavier, and have a distinctive golden-brown surface or crust. The classic New York style is the best example. Non-Baked (Chilled) Cheesecakes, on the other hand, are set using gelatin, agar-agar, or whipped cream/sour cream. They have a lighter, airier, and silkier mouthfeel, often served very cold and featuring softer toppings like fruit coulis or fresh cream.
While many Singaporeans appreciate the traditional richness of a classic baked cheesecake, the non-baked, chilled style often holds a slight edge in popularity, particularly in the local context. This preference is largely due to the refreshing nature of a cold, light dessert in the tropical heat. The lighter texture makes it less heavy after a substantial meal, and the non-baked method allows for a wider, more vibrant array of fruit and light flavour infusions which are very popular here.
6. What should I look for to determine the quality of a cheesecake slice before I purchase it from a local bakery or café?
Assessing the quality of a cheesecake can be done by observing a few key characteristics, even before tasting it. First, look at the colour and texture of the filling. For baked cheesecakes, the centre should be uniformly pale yellow or cream-coloured, without large cracks (a few small ones are acceptable) or signs of being undercooked and jiggly.
The texture should appear smooth and dense, not grainy, which often indicates overmixing or excessive heat. For chilled cheesecakes, the texture should look smooth, glossy, and perfectly firm. Second, inspect the crust. A quality crust should be evenly pressed, neither overly thick nor too thin, and should be dark golden-brown (for Graham cracker or digestive biscuit bases) and firmly integrated with the filling, without crumbling away excessively.
Finally, examine the toppings and flavour profile. High-quality cakes use fresh, vibrant fruits or rich, well-tempered chocolate ganache, and the overall flavour balance should be perfect—the tanginess of the cream cheese should cut through the sweetness, preventing the cake from becoming cloyingly sweet, which is a common mark of an excellent, well-made cheesecake.
7. If I'm looking for a celebratory cheesecake for a birthday or special occasion, what customisation options are typically available in Singapore?
Many independent and specialty bakeries in Singapore readily offer customisation for special occasion cheesecakes, elevating them beyond a standard dessert. The options generally fall into three categories.
Flavour Customisation involves selecting a less common flavour combination, such as a specific alcoholic infusion (like Baileys or Kahlúa) or a unique pairing of fruits and spices, sometimes even offering half-and-half flavour options. Aesthetic and Decoration Customisation is very common and includes specific colour themes, elaborate toppings (edible flowers, macaron towers, gold leaf), and personalised written messages on a chocolate plaque.
Dietary Customisation is increasingly requested, allowing customers to order vegan, gluten-free, or low-sugar versions of popular recipes. When ordering, it is crucial to provide at least 3-7 days' notice, especially for highly customised requests or during peak seasons like public holidays, to ensure the bakery can source necessary ingredients and dedicate time to the intricate design work.
8. What are the best local beverages, such as traditional Kopi (coffee) or Teh (tea), that pair exceptionally well with different types of cheesecake?
Pairing local Singaporean beverages with cheesecake can enhance the dessert experience by balancing the cake's richness and sweetness. For dense, classic New York or baked cheesecakes, which are rich and creamy, a robust beverage is needed to cut through the fat. A strong Kopi-O-Kosong (black coffee with sugar, but without condensed milk) is an excellent choice. The bitterness and high caffeine content of the traditional local brew provide a necessary counterpoint. Alternatively, a cup of Teh-O-Kosong (black tea without sugar or milk) serves a similar purpose, cleansing the palate.
For lighter, chilled, or fruity cheesecakes (like mango, strawberry, or lychee), a less intense and sweeter drink works best. A soothing glass of Iced Lemon Tea or a light, aromatic Chinese tea (like Jasmine or Pu-Erh) complements the fruity notes without overpowering the delicate flavours. If you prefer a milky pairing, a less sweet Teh-C (tea with evaporated milk) or a lightly sweetened Kopi-C (coffee with evaporated milk and sugar) can complement rich fillings like chocolate or caramel without being overly heavy.
9. What are some common pitfalls or mistakes to avoid when attempting to make a cheesecake at home in Singapore's humid kitchen environment?
Baking a cheesecake at home in Singapore requires careful attention to counter the effects of the humid climate. One of the most common pitfalls is skipping the water bath for baked cheesecakes. A water bath (placing the springform pan inside a larger pan filled with hot water) is essential as it regulates the temperature, provides moist heat to prevent the edges from setting too quickly, and minimises the risk of cracking, which is exacerbated by rapid temperature changes.
Another mistake is overmixing the batter. Overmixing incorporates too much air, which expands during baking and causes the cake to puff up and then dramatically fall and crack upon cooling, resulting in a dense, poor texture. Mix only until the ingredients are just combined. Lastly, improper cooling is critical. Never take a baked cheesecake straight from the oven to the counter; turn off the oven and let the cake cool inside with the door ajar for at least an hour before refrigerating. This gradual cooling process is key to a smooth, uniform texture.
10. Are there good options for individuals seeking healthier, vegan, or low-sugar alternatives to traditional cheesecake in Singapore?
Yes, the demand for health-conscious desserts has grown significantly in Singapore, leading to greater availability of specialty cheesecakes. Vegan Cheesecakes are one of the most popular alternatives, utilising a base of cashew nuts, coconut cream, or tofu to achieve the creamy texture without any dairy products. The crusts are often made with nuts and dates instead of biscuits and butter. These are typically non-baked and set in the freezer.
For Low-Sugar or Keto-friendly options, specialised bakeries now substitute refined sugar with alternative sweeteners like Erythritol, Stevia, or Monk Fruit extract, and replace the traditional high-carb crust with nut flours (like almond flour).
Furthermore, many establishments offer raw or raw-vegan cheesecakes, which are primarily composed of nuts, seeds, and unrefined sweeteners, offering a dense, nutrient-rich dessert without any baking. When seeking these alternatives, it is best to look for specialty online vendors or cafés that specifically brand themselves as catering to dietary needs, as these require very different preparation methods and ingredient sourcing compared to traditional bakeries.
