I’ve been wanting to try Marguerite for a while since my fiancé and I frequent Gardens by the Bay often – and he surprised me by bringing us here for my birthday lunch! The atmosphere was serene and elegant, perfect for a special celebration. The food was unique, beautifully plated, and full of interesting flavors. I’m not much of a meat eater, and even though there wasn’t a listed alternative, our server Henry was incredibly attentive and accommodating to our request. He also explained each course with care, which really elevated the experience. We left feeling full, happy, and well taken care of – a truly memorable meal.

We had a wonderful experience and really can’t wait to go back again! Everything was perfect: the food, the service, the atmosphere! Really really nice! We tried the pairing (wine, cocktail and mocktail) and they were fantastic. The food is always 4 small dishes per course, one better than the other. It’s so hard to choose a favorite. All the waiters are VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) and just so extremely friendly, kind and helpful.

It was an unique experience dining in the dark. With the sight sensory “removed” the food actually tasted great and it was fun trying to identify the ingredients ??? The servers, Mr Liew and Mr Peter were awesome. Overall, Nox is highly recommended for couples or group dinners. Get ready to be pleasantly amazed by the experience of dining in the dark and the tasty cuisine that awaits!!!

Wonderful experience! Chanced upon Cesoir on a Tik-Tok posting. Decided to give it a try for my partner’s birthday. From start to finish, it was fantastic. Halfway through, my phone battery was low. One of their staff, XY heard and passed me her portable charger. After I drained her charger, she passed me another. Even handed my partner a blanket cos she was feeling rather cold. Food was absolute top-notch as well. Chef Lai served most of the dishes to us. Very well planned menu, and I love the Apollo inspired wafer! Will definitely head back again. Do keep up the good work!

Samantha Yap
Had a wonderful dinner experience at Aniba with my husband. The hospitality really stood out — Tristan, the manager, personally greeted tables, engaged guests, and even offered welcome drinks, which made the experience feel warm and thoughtful. The atmosphere was great — intimate and stylish, with a limited but nice sky view that added to the mood. The food was excellent: kosher, well-executed, fish- and vegetable-forward, offering a wide range of Mediterranean and Israeli-inspired options — very pescatarian-friendly. The menu is thoughtfully rotated over time, which keeps the experience fresh. We also loved the unique selection of Israeli wines, and pricing felt very reasonable for the overall quality and experience. A nice touch is that every Wednesday is Ladies’ Night as well. Definitely a place we’d return to.

Came here with my partner for our 6th anniversary celebration, and we were warmly welcomed by very friendly staff who were very hospitable and attended to all our needs. They recommended us to try the Kubaneh, kubbeh and fish kebab, which were all really good and well prepared. We were also recommended the chocolate cake and brown butter icecream for dessert, which was extremely delicious. Will definitely come back here again, not just because of the food but because the service here was amazing and we felt so comfortable and welcome throughout the meal ?

BestLah’s Recommendation
With so many beautiful options on this list, the best romantic restaurant really depends on how you and your partner like to spend time together. Below are three thoughtfully chosen picks, each matched to a specific type of couple and date-night intention, so you can choose with clarity rather than guesswork.
1. If You Love Dressing Up And Want The Night To Feel Like An Occasion
Our Pick: VUE
VUE is chosen specifically for couples who enjoy the theatre of a big night out. The rooftop location overlooking Marina Bay creates instant impact, which is why it’s ideal for anniversaries, birthdays, or dates where you want to impress without overthinking the details. The skyline view, especially at sunset, naturally sets a romantic tone before you even sit down, and the polished service ensures the evening flows smoothly from cocktails to dinner.
This restaurant works particularly well for couples who appreciate ambience as much as food. The modern European menu is refined without being intimidating, and the elevated setting encourages you to linger, talk, and enjoy the view together. If your idea of romance includes city lights, a glass of wine in hand, and that “this feels special” moment, VUE is the strongest choice.
2. If You Prefer Quiet Conversation And Meaningful Time Together
Our Pick: Ce Soir Restaurant
Ce Soir is selected for couples who value intimacy over spectacle. Its tucked-away location and softly lit interior make it feel deliberately removed from the city’s noise, which is why it’s perfect for anniversaries, heartfelt catch-ups, or dates where conversation is the priority. There’s no rush here. Everything from the pacing of the service to the layout of the dining room encourages you to slow down and be present.
The tasting-menu format is another reason Ce Soir stands out. Each course arrives as a shared moment, giving you time to talk, reflect, and savour the experience together. If you and your partner enjoy understated elegance, privacy, and a calm atmosphere where the focus stays on each other, this restaurant fits that need beautifully.
3. If You Want A Date That Strengthens Connection Through Experience
Our Pick: NOX – Dine In The Dark
NOX is chosen for couples who bond through shared experiences rather than traditional settings. Dining in complete darkness removes visual distractions, which naturally leads to deeper conversation, more laughter, and heightened awareness of each other. It’s especially well-suited for couples who enjoy trying something different or want a date that feels genuinely memorable rather than routine.
This experience works particularly well for newer couples looking to break the ice, or long-term partners who want to reconnect in a fresh way. With no phones, no visuals, and no outside noise, the focus stays entirely on the shared moment. If you’re looking for a date night that feels intimate, playful, and unlike anything else in Singapore, NOX is the clear choice.
Final Thoughts
Each of these recommendations was chosen not just for romance, but for how that romance is expressed. Whether you connect through breathtaking views, quiet conversation, or shared adventure, picking the right setting makes all the difference. Choose the restaurant that mirrors your relationship, and your date night will feel natural, intentional, and truly memorable.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2. Do I need to make a reservation, and if so, how far in advance should I book, especially for special occasions?
Yes, a reservation is absolutely essential for any of the best, most sought-after romantic venues in Singapore.
- Standard Date Night (Weekday/Non-Holiday): We recommend booking at least one to two weeks in advance, especially if you are targeting a Friday or Saturday evening.
- Special Occasions (Valentine's Day, Christmas Eve, Anniversary): These dates book up months in advance! For a top-tier restaurant, you should aim to book at least two to three months ahead. Many venues release special seasonal menus and open bookings far earlier for these high-demand days.
- For the best seating (view, window, private nook): Always mention your preference when booking and call the restaurant directly to follow up a few days before to politely reconfirm your request.
3. What is the general dress code for romantic fine dining restaurants in Singapore?
Most romantic, upscale restaurants in Singapore adhere to a "Smart Casual" dress code as a minimum.
- For Gentlemen: This typically means a collared shirt (polo or button-down), long trousers (no shorts or ripped jeans), and covered shoes (loafers or dress shoes). Slippers, sandals, and sleeveless shirts are almost always disallowed.
- For Ladies: An elegant dress, a stylish blouse with a skirt or tailored trousers, or a chic jumpsuit are all excellent choices.
- Premium Fine Dining: For very high-end establishments (especially those with Michelin stars or rooftop views), the dress code may be "Business Casual" or even require a jacket for gentlemen. It is always safest to check the restaurant's website or call ahead to avoid any awkwardness at the door.
4. Are there romantic restaurants that cater well to specific dietary restrictions, such as vegetarian, Halal, or gluten-free diets?
Absolutely. Singapore's diverse culinary scene means many top romantic spots are accustomed to handling special requests.
- High-End Restaurants: Typically, fine dining establishments are excellent at accommodating requests. You must inform them of any dietary restrictions (including allergies) when you make the reservation—do not wait until you arrive. This allows the kitchen to prepare suitable options or adapt the set menu in advance.
- Halal/Kosher: While some ingredients may be Halal, a restaurant may not be fully Halal-certified. You may need to look for specific restaurants that proudly advertise their Halal certification or offer a fully plant-based menu.
- Vegan/Vegetarian: Many modern European and fusion restaurants offer dedicated, creative vegetarian or vegan options beyond a simple pasta dish, but checking the online menu beforehand is always recommended.
5. Besides the food and view, what elements contribute most to a truly romantic ambiance in Singapore?
A great romantic atmosphere is a synergy of several factors beyond just a beautiful location:
- Lighting: The best romantic spots use soft, warm, and dim lighting, often supplemented by candlelight, to create an intimate, flattering mood. Harsh, bright lights are a definite mood killer.
- Music: The music should be subtle, background, and at a conversational volume. Jazz, soft acoustic covers, or classical music are common choices. You should never have to raise your voice to speak to your date.
- Seating Arrangement: Look for places that offer secluded tables, private nooks, or booth seating. Tables that are spaced far apart are ideal, ensuring your conversation remains private and you don't feel crowded by other diners.
- Service: Attentive, non-intrusive service is key. Staff should be polite, knowledgeable, and ensure your needs are met without constantly interrupting your conversation.
6. I’m planning a proposal/big anniversary. Can the restaurant help me arrange a surprise?
Yes, many romantic restaurants in Singapore excel at discreetly assisting with special arrangements, though services vary by venue.
- Common Requests: Most can arrange flowers to be placed on the table before arrival, write a custom message on a dessert plate, or even present a ring in a subtle, pre-arranged manner.
- Private Spaces: Some venues offer semi-private rooms, secluded outdoor terraces, or even unique 'dining domes' that can be booked for complete exclusivity.
- The Key is Communication: Always call to speak with the Restaurant Manager or Head Host a few days after making your booking. Be clear about what you need, and they will advise on what is feasible. Remember to be flexible, as premium arrangements may require a minimum spend or an additional fee.
7. Is it better to book a window table for dinner, or is the ambiance better in a quieter, inner corner?
This is entirely down to personal preference, but generally, there are trade-offs for each:
- Window/View Table: Ideal for a dramatic, 'wow' factor. You get stunning skyline or waterfront views, which are brilliant for a special occasion. The drawback is that these tables are often the most exposed, and you may lose some sense of intimacy. They are also the hardest to secure.
- Inner Corner/Secluded Booth: Perfect for intimacy and deep conversation. These spots usually feature the best mood lighting and offer a greater sense of privacy and seclusion, making it feel like just the two of you. The drawback is that you might miss out on the panoramic vistas.
Recommendation: For a first date, a great view can be a wonderful icebreaker. For an anniversary or proposal, a quiet, private booth offers unparalleled intimacy. Always request your preference when booking.
8.What are some unique or unconventional romantic dining experiences available in Singapore beyond the typical rooftop or colonial bungalow setting?
Singapore offers several novel experiences for adventurous couples:
- Dining in the Dark: This unique sensory experience removes sight, forcing you and your partner to focus solely on taste, smell, and conversation, which can be an incredibly intimate and memorable bonding exercise.
- Cable Car Dining: Enjoy a private four-course meal high above the city, offering changing panoramic views from Sentosa to Mount Faber.
- Floating Pod/Garden Domes: Some venues offer private, air-conditioned dining enclosures set within lush gardens or atop water features, providing an exclusive and picturesque setting away from the main dining hall.
- Dinner Cruises: A romantic sail aboard a tall ship or luxury yacht, enjoying a meal against the backdrop of the stunning Singapore sunset or night skyline.
9. How much time should we allow for a relaxed, romantic dinner, especially if ordering a tasting menu?
Timing is crucial to ensure you don't feel rushed. For a truly relaxed experience:
- A La Carte (2-3 Courses): Budget for at least 5 to 2 hours. This allows for a leisurely pace, time for pre-dinner drinks, and a relaxed finish with coffee or dessert.
- Tasting/Degustation Menu (4+ Courses): Allow for 5 to 3.5 hours. Tasting menus are designed to be a culinary journey with specific pacing between courses. If you are ordering a wine pairing, the experience will naturally extend to the longer end of this scale.
Pro-Tip: Book a reservation a little earlier than usual (e.g., 7:00 PM instead of 8:00 PM) to ensure you have the table for a full block before the next seating, reducing the chance of feeling hurried by the staff.
10. Are there any essential table manners or cultural etiquette tips I should know when dining at a formal Singaporean restaurant?
While Singapore is cosmopolitan, upholding good manners is highly appreciated in formal settings:
- Napkin Etiquette: Place your napkin on your lap immediately upon seating. If you excuse yourself, place it lightly on your chair. At the end of the meal, place it neatly to the left of your plate.
- Utensil Use: In fine dining, always work from the outside in when using cutlery for a multi-course meal. When pausing, rest your knife and fork diagonally across the plate in a tent shape; never let the used handles touch the table again.
- Asking for the Bill: Do not aggressively flag down the waiter. Catch their eye and give a subtle hand signal (like a brief writing motion) or, better yet, wait for a natural moment when they approach the table.
- Service Charge: Note that most formal Singaporean restaurants automatically include a 10% Service Charge in the bill, which is the customary way to tip. While you can add a small extra amount for truly exceptional service, it is not mandatory.
