Great fish and chips, one of the best in Singapore with the right balance of fish meat and batter. Scotched eggs tasted good too but we liked the purple slaw which came with it even more. Seating is alfresco style, lots of people drinking beer too. Nice atmosphere overall.

Fish and chips is very delicious! The ambience there is good too

We had our “second dinner” here after a disappointing dinner at some other place. The Scotch egg was really well prepared, and the portions for the scampi and fish were generous. They offer both standard British thick cut fries and thin cut fries. Definitely up to preference but I think the thin cut fries were better. Both were delicious though. Wait staff were also friendly and accommodating, would recommend!

Very good fish and chips. Compared to some fish and chips, this is not greasy to the point that you will want to stop eating after a few bites. The wedges were also nicely seasoned. There is also different selection of fishes. The place is rather small with only a few tall table and stool. Staff was also very friendly as well. Definitely recommended.

Passed this little fish & chip shop at basement today and decided to pack for my sons’ late lunch! OMG! What a treasure find! 🤩 Truly one of the better fish and chips around . I had this packed home and the fish still remained crispy with proper thick chips and sauces packed on side! I don’t mind the chips not being over salted so you can taste the potato. I am fussy about fish and chips as I don’t like overly oily or bready type of batter. The best part is the fish was meaty! Unlike some places where you get more batter than fish. That’s what I call AWESOME fish & chips! Will absolutely 💯 be getting my F&C there again!
JL Lee
Absolutely yummy till forgot to take photos!!! Fish and chips was nicely battered and fried. Drinks were nicely matched also.
HuiShan Park
Ordered fish & chip set menu and fish bites. Loved how thick and crispy the fish were. They cook it upon order and the breading is different here. More like tempura coating than bread crumbs which gives it extra crisp. It stayed crispy till end of our meal. My kids (5yo, 9yo) and I enjoyed our food and we were also pleasantly surprised with the apple mint tea which we selected as part of the set menu. Will come again.

Perfect fish and chips! Crispy and thin batter on the outside, tender and juicy white fish meat on the inside. The fries were also cooked perfectly crispy. The side salad was fresh, drizzled with a well balanced tangy dressing. Tomato soup was a bit watery and a bit too salty for my liking, but still pretty tasty. Would definitely come again to reorder their fish and chips!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
2. What is the typical price range for a plate of fish and chips in Singapore?
The price can range from very affordable to a premium meal, depending on the establishment. At a casual food court or hawker stall, you can expect to pay between $8 and $12 for a plate of fish and chips.
For a restaurant or cafe setting, prices are generally higher, ranging from $15 to $25 or more, especially for dishes using imported premium fish. The price often reflects the quality of the fish, the portion size, and the dining experience.
3. Are there halal-certified options for fish and chips in Singapore?
Yes, finding halal-certified fish and chips is quite easy in Singapore. Several popular fast-casual restaurants and chain eateries that specialize in seafood are officially halal-certified.
Many of these places offer their own take on the classic dish, ensuring that Muslim diners can enjoy a delicious and worry-free meal. When in doubt, you can always check for the official halal certification logo displayed at the eatery or inquire with the staff.
4. What kind of batter and side dishes are commonly served with fish and chips?
The batter and sides are what make the dish truly satisfying. The fish is typically coated in a light and crispy batter that ranges from a simple flour-based mix to a more flavorful beer-based batter.
As for the sides, French fries are the standard accompaniment, but some places also offer thicker-cut British-style "chips." Other common sides include a scoop of coleslaw, a small portion of garden salad, or even a side of mushy peas for a more authentic British feel.
5. What sauces are traditionally served with fish and chips?
The most traditional and popular sauce served with fish and chips is tartar sauce, a creamy and tangy condiment that perfectly complements the fried fish. Many eateries also provide ketchup and chili sauce, which are a must-have for the local palate.
For a more unique or modern twist, some places offer a variety of other sauces, such as garlic aioli, curry sauce, or even wasabi mayonnaise, allowing you to customise your flavor experience.
6. How authentic is the fish and chips in Singapore compared to the UK?
The authenticity of fish and chips in Singapore can vary greatly. Many local eateries have adapted the dish to suit the Singaporean palate, often using a lighter batter and serving it with chili sauce. However, there are a few establishments that pride themselves on offering a truly authentic British experience.
These places often import their fish (like haddock or cod), use a traditional beer batter, and serve it with thick-cut chips and mushy peas, providing a taste that is very close to what you would find in the UK.
7. What is the typical dining experience like for fish and chips in Singapore?
The dining experience for fish and chips is typically very casual and relaxed. In hawker centres and coffee shops, the ambience is lively and bustling, perfect for a quick, no-fuss meal. In contrast, restaurants and gastropubs offer a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, often with air-conditioning and full table service.
Both settings provide a great way to enjoy this classic comfort food, whether you're looking for a simple dinner or a leisurely meal with friends.
8. What is a typical portion size for fish and chips?
A standard portion of fish and chips in Singapore is usually quite generous and is designed to be a full meal. It typically consists of a large fillet of fish, either one or two pieces, accompanied by a substantial serving of fries or chips.
For most people, a single portion is very filling. For those with a smaller appetite, some places may offer smaller portions or kids' meals. Conversely, some eateries are known for their massive portions, perfect for sharing or for those with a big appetite.
9. Where do the restaurants in Singapore get their fish from?
The sourcing of fish for fish and chips varies depending on the establishment. More budget-friendly hawker stalls and eateries often source their fish from regional suppliers, using varieties that are easily available and affordable.
On the other hand, restaurants that aim for a higher-end or authentic British experience often import their fish from cold-water fisheries in the Atlantic or Pacific oceans. This commitment to sourcing ensures they can provide specific types of fish, like cod or haddock, that are traditional to the dish.
10. Can I find different styles of batter besides the classic?
Yes, while the classic batter is a staple, many places in Singapore have innovated with different batter styles to add a unique twist. Besides the common crispy batter, you can find a lighter, tempura-style batter that results in a very delicate and airy crust.
Some restaurants also use a breadcrumb coating for a different kind of crunch. These variations provide a great way to experience the dish in a new light while still enjoying the simple comfort of fried fish and chips.
